On May 7, 2021 our hearts were broken when we couldn’t save a little distemper pup. Thankfully with the help of community members (mostly some great kids at the local school), we managed to track down and rescue the four remaining siblings. These pups are now in the loving care of one of our very experienced foster homes. They will be monitored closely for the next 10 days, which is the incubation period for the dreaded distemper virus. Our hearts are full of hope for these four precious little ones. We are hopeful we will be able to share positive stories about their progress!
Our community outreach volunteer took the time to explain and educate the owners of the mother dog about the importance of vaccines and how preventative health measures can make all the difference in the world. After talking to our volunteer, the family decided to make the momma dog part of the SCARS Spay and Neuter program. She will be vaccinated and spayed to make sure this tragedy doesn’t happen again. She will be able to live the rest of her life in her familiar home community and be protected from distemper and other deadly diseases, and never have another litter of pups. The SCARS Spay Neuter program is incredibly valuable to the well-being of animals and people. Please consider donating to this worthwhile initiative.
