We are grateful that these kind people decided to raise money for SCARS as part of their annual, August BBQ celebration with family and friends!
Tim Tymchuk shared their story….
When we first started planning Meat Day 2020 (our 10th Anniversary), the plan was to go big or go home. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 our plans changed drastically. Some of the changes that were made was fewer people, making full use of the size of our location and proper care when handling the food.
Despite having fewer people in attendance, we were successful in raising $2,000 for SCARS.
Meat Day was founded and started in 2010 by 3 young men having fun. Little did they know their vision would have included today’s epic event. Thanks to the original founders, Tyler (our oldest), Bret (our middle son) and Cody (our nephew). Troy (our youngest) and I joined in 2011 and things grew rapidly since then.
The event began on Baba’s (my mom’s) back patio on a small Weber kettle grill. Not only has it grown to the front driveway and entire yard, but it has also now evolved to three smokers, a pit barrel smoker, two charcoal BBQ grills and a gas BBQ in the front driveway and yard. There are a few family members that are keys to our success. Without them, Meat Day would not be as successful or rewarding. They are Sheila Tymchuk, Hailey Letcher, Sarah Furtado, Baba T, Moosh, Karen, Tara and Tayler Tymchuk.
This year we had major sponsors with Mike Norris of Edmonton Volvo wanting to get involved. Not only did Mike provide significant financial support, but he also provided their custom tent and a gorgeous 2020 X90 for display.
Our next biggest support came from Tyler Eastcott from Tytom Renovations. Tyler helped and provided items for the event including sponsorship. Having two bigger sponsors on board this year allowed us to get involved with SCARS.
The corporate sponsorship did not end there as the following companies were gracious enough to provide financial support towards our combined donation to SCARS:
- T3 Contracting – Tim Tymchuk
- Think Green – Pierre Couture
- WSI Doors – Dahl family
- ID Key – Edward Henshall
- GB Junior Trucking – Glen Boyd
- D&M Concrete – Darrell Tocher
Also a shout out to Kona Ice who dropped by to help cool everyone off. Along with serving Kona Ice to everyone there, they also donated part of their profits to SCARS as well.
Wait…. there is more in terms of sponsors. Here is a massive shout out or thank you for all the families, friends and individuals who donated monies to help support SCARS this year.
That pretty much sums up our Meat Day 2020. Now the scheming, planning and meetings start for our 11th annual in 2021. Here is hoping we can go big to make up what we were unable to do in 2021.
